Artist Spotlight: Big Vee

Artist Introduction

What’s your stage name and where are you from?

My stage name is Big Vee and I’m an Indian-American rapper from Philadelphia.

What’s the story behind your stage name?

My middle name starts with a letter “V” so I made it my stage name.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

I’m also an aspiring music producer alongside being a rapper. I started crafting rhymes from the age of 13 and began making beats at the age of 9.

Fan Engagement

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.

My latest track is “LYFE!” and it is available on all streaming platforms. This is the most exciting yet challenging song I have ever made because I had to step out of my comfort zone of making the usual songs about “money, girls, etc.” and rap about my struggle being a brown boy in a predominantly black-dominated art. But I will never give up on my craft.

What message do you want to convey through your music?

I used to make some pretty dark music, but after some time I started feeling pretty low, and that showed through my music. Ever since then, I just wanted to uplift people with positive thoughts and make them motivated enough to chase a bag.

Behind the Music

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

I had a lot of challenges during production and making music growing up. I didn’t know what a “tempo” or what an “808” was, which are key elements of producing music. All the beats I made were pretty off-key and the only way I learned was through my mistakes and a whole lot of research on YouTube and paid online courses.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

I’d say J. Cole because “Middle Child” was the first rap song that I ever heard in my life and that made me who I am today. Cole really taught me that I could stay humble and chase a bag at the same time. For me, that is the most valuable life lesson anyone could ever learn.

Future Aspirations

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?

I just love making music. I want to see myself on tours all over the world, making music videos and experimenting with my music.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?

I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing and make music alongside music videos, promoting my content until I pop off.
