Artist Spotlight: SpenDoe

Artist Introduction

What’s your stage name and where are you from?

They call me SpenDoe. I’m originally from Santa Cruz, CA.

What’s the story behind your stage name?

Gotta get it, gotta spend it.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

Inspired by various artists, across multiple genres. A visionary creative, who is always creating. More ups and downs than lowriders hitting switches.

Fan Engagement

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.

I’ve went into the process of creating. Then, all of a sudden… you find yourself going in a completely different direction than you originally intended. Before you know it, you create something that is so dope! That session is what sparked the idea for a project titled “Name 100” and “El Fuego.” I began to write one song, and wandered down a different path. I benched the song, and began putting together two projects.

What message do you want to convey through your music?

Go hard for what you believe in. Stay on the build, and remain true to yourself.

Behind the Music

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

Finding the right people to work with. That is a challenge, as I take the music seriously.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

DJ Quik. I’ve always been a huge fan of Quik’s rapping style and his production. I first became familiar with DJ Quik’s music from listening to my father’s cassette tape “Quik Is The Name.” I started out rapping over DJ Quik’s “Quik’s Groove” tracks. On each release, DJ Quik would have a legit groove, and sometimes I’d freestyle to them, or write whole songs.

Future Aspirations

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?

Building my brand. Branching off into other ventures. Fusing music genres is something I look forward to. I have plans to collaborate with artists from various areas.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?

We will see what doors open and close. That’s the way things are in life. We plan, and we execute that plan… or we plan to do something, but end up in a different situation. It’s crazy how that happens. I’m working on documentaries and writing outside of music. The music will always remain part of what I do. The music is just a fraction of what I do. I have two solo releases that we are getting ready to release. “Name 100” and “El Fuego.” We’re presently finishing “Whales & Sharks” various artists album.
