What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Chxntwxll (pronounced CHANTWELL) From Fort Lauderdale by way Los Angeles
What’s the story behind your stage name?
When I heard the name is sounded like a blank canvas to me as well as a literal translation “chant well” like say it right.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
Self taught in 2000 when inheriting my grandfathers vinyl collection. In 2006 went to Art Institute of Atlanta, in 2008 went to S.A.E. And unsuccessfully completing both courses due to life circumstances. After 20 plus years it is no longer something I do, it is who I am.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I never create from a place of knowing it is always an intermingling with god. Every creation has it’s interesting moments.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Don’t take yourself so seriously.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
I also work on TV shows as a tech and robotic camera operator, so stepping away from music for a month or two due to travel or the intensity of the gig makes stepping back to creating feels tedious at first but staying persistent is the only way.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Anderson Paak, Common, JID, Nas, Snoh Aalergra, Method Man & Redman to name a few. Why? Why not!
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I have several projects on the way this year via Chxntwxll’s Beat Bouillon beat-tape series and my collaboration project Miei Amici their is plenty to be excited about.
