What’s your stage name and where are you from?

Unc Doe straight outta Youngstown, Ohio

What’s the story behind your stage name?

I originally went by Big Indoe and everyone called me Doe for short. Then I did the name switch to Don Kody which is what my most notable credits are under.. but I returned home and slid “Unc” in there cuz I’m in my Unc era of life and my subject matter matured as well. Still skilled with this rap thing so yeah, long story less long.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

Made music for solace. Made music to achieve dreams. Make music because I can’t stop and I need my perspective on record so when I’m no longer here in physical form, I’m STILL here in physical form.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.

I had a 20 minute window to get these vocals down before I have get to the daily grind. The subject was so social issues vibes and it just felt like everything that could happen to consume my time happened. Louder than normal cars riding by BACK TO BACK… my laptop blank out and rebooted.. no updates or nothing.. table top mic kept leaning right after my first “uh” before the bar. Group chat just went crazy and it’s never that active at the time of recording. In my mind them forces was trying to not let me get it off because if I don’t get it in the moment I feel it the most.. it’s never right to me and I may not go back to it. I fought and won that time tho.

What message do you want to convey through your music?

Life is a wild ride but don’t go YOLO instead just be aware, move accordingly, & keep God. If you’re young.. TRY to survive long enough to mature out of your reckless mindset. How do I know? I was that same reckless Youngsta. I’m not looking down on you.. I understand you. Other than that, you’re getting unapologetic dope rhymes. Some may be in “song” form and some in a stream of consciousness.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

Overthinking how much I need to add to the beats.. but these days if I feel it don’t need anything other than my voice then so be it. I haven’t been this comfortable with the process so I first started out before I realized what music business really was. I think it also helps that I’m not pressed for anything. I got my family so everything else is a bonus.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

At the point of creativity I’m at right now.. Ransom or someone like that. Just to bar out Plus I agree with his stance on music, don’t judge me… just judge the music. I felt that. Crazy I did another interview with a similar question and I had no answer at the time lol. I do now.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?

To a respectable revenue stream from an audience that understand and support my vibe.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?

Keep building the Unc Doe brand song by song because my love for WRITING seems to have rekindled.

Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?

My site uncdoe.donkody.com that’s where the links are.. whatever platform you want to support from I appreciate it all really. Although I typically put joints on my Bandcamp ahead of DSP release so if you’re really like that.. shoot that follow thru please and thank you.
