What’s your stage name and where are you from?

Splitzide

What’s the story behind your stage name?

My original name was Cool Breeze around the time i was ready release some music another artist took the name. Those who were close to me in the streets would called me Splitz or Splitzide which means 2 sides, another side or a different side which resonates with every one. No human being is one dimensional regardless of what they do for a living.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

A roller coaster ride. It’s been up, down & full of twists & turns.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.

People are always surprised when they see how versatile I am. In the studio they may only know me for rapping & be surprised when they see me sing or produce. I was a singer before I started rapping & a poet & songwriter before I was a singer. I like to experiment with all types of sounds & genres of music.

What message do you want to convey through your music?

Many messages from my experiences. The mistakes & lessons learned. My music is my therapy & for awhile I didn’t shared it with anyone. I was very private with it because it’s something personal to me. It wasn’t until a friend took one of my recordings without my knowledge & let everyone at school hear it. So after every period ppl were coming up to me saying “I love that song you did!” Over & over again after every period then finally I ask what song are you talking about. They said the one my friend was playing. Immediately I knew he took one of tapes. So I walk up to him & said “Wtf are you doing?” He said “I know how you feel about your therapy session but your songs are too good for no one to hear it. You dope!” Truth was he believed in me before I believed in myself. Also I was in these streets & street cats didn’t sing. They made fun of the guys who sing. Now I do both.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

Sometimes I get writers block & when I do Ill listen to some blues like Marvin Sease, Tyrone Davis or Nirvana & Green Day or my new music playlist just to get my creative flow going.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

I listen to a lot of music by many artists but if I had to choose one it would be Taylor Swift. I would love to have her to rap on the collab. She’s a powerhouse in the industry & there’s a lot I could learn from her.
