Artist Introduction
What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My name is Flamingo Fred, and I’m from the San Francisco Bay Area.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
When I started out making music, I went by Wreck The Rebel, which was short for Frederick. But now I go by Flamingo Fred because my vibe attracts my tribe, you dig?
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
My journey has been about holding it down for the underground. I started out as a strictly hip-hop artist, but now I’m also down with electronic and funk. My older brother Checkin Trapps used to write raps for me and my little brother when we were 8-9 years old and throw us on stage at talent shows. After that, my brother Verseborn said let’s take this music thing seriously, threw me in the studio, and we’ve been rocking ever since.

Fan Engagement
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I made a song recently called “DAY drunk.” It’s produced by my little brother Enyway and will be on my project “Weekend at Wreckie’s 2.” Sometimes you make a track, and you just feel something hit you. The hook for the track popped into my head, and something just took over me that made me feel something deep. The only thing I can ever hope is that people can get the same feeling when listening to it.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I want to convey a vibe. The whole reason I make music is to make people feel good and laugh. I always hope people can catch the vibe when listening to my music. Something you can drink to on the beach, something that you can smoke to, something that will help you get through a hard time, something that will boost your confidence.

Behind the Music
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Music has so many challenges I could be here all day naming them. But the biggest challenge was finding out who I was. I matured in music; this music raised me, and every time I evolved, the music evolved with me. Music is my friend, it’s my family, it’s my lover.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I really would like to work with The Alchemist. That would be a vibe. I think I would shock some people—I’m the underdog.

Future Aspirations
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Music will take me to different places around the world and help me continue to catch this vibe. That’s what it’s all about—catching and maintaining that good feeling, that good vibe.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
I have been getting into acting and taking it seriously. But I just want to continue to create. Everything will come together how it needs to as long as I continue to create.
