Artist Spotlight: Atayshia from Murray, KY

6

What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Atayshia. I was born in Lexington, TN, but I’ve spent the majority of my life residing in Murray, KY.

What’s the story behind your stage name?
My artist name is actually my birth name. The story behind it is a bit longer than that. My father’s name is Tay, and my maternal grandmother’s name is Tammy. My mom and some friends got creative and named me Atayshia Tamiyah. So, I have both of their names incorporated into mine, with a slight variation of spelling from my grandmother’s name.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I originally started writing music at a very young age (8 or 9) because I didn’t feel heard. So I’d put it all into words and throw it over beats. After a tragedy a couple of years ago, I really started taking life and especially music seriously.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
While creating my most recent track, I experienced tremendous growth. I dialed in on my thoughts and what they have created in my life so far. I realized my mindset determines my reality, and with that thought, the lyrics poured out of me.

What message do you want to convey through your music?
I hope to inspire others to become the best version of themselves. So many songs have literally saved my life—if I could do that for just one person, I’d be fulfilled.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
I’ve been trying to record myself, but I knew production wasn’t my specialty. So, I hit up a local studio, and my engineer did a way better job than I could have at this level.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I’d love to collaborate with Ajna. I feel we could create something special with their raw and unfiltered approach to life.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
In the next year, I see myself performing at more shows and growing my fanbase.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
The next big step is stepping out of my comfort zone, connecting with others, and strengthening relationships with artists, producers, and especially fans.

We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Yes!

Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
I’m very open to any and all.

Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
I am on all streaming platforms under the name Atayshia. Just spell it correctly, and you’ll find me.

What is the best way to contact you if fans want to give feedback or if other artists/producers want to collaborate?
Hit me on Instagram @foreverrr.34, or email me (my email is in my bio). I’m always open to constructive feedback.
