What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My name is Chepps! Hailing from Seattle.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
It was a nickname given by an old friend, many years ago.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I was raised on old school R&B, funk, and soul. I took an interest in rap music and rhyming at an early age. I’m able to appreciate all types of music and find it fascinating how music can be so subjective and hit every ear differently.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
While recording my latest track, I felt a sense of urgency—as if this was something I needed to get out. Accordingly, I immediately set a release date and planned to drop it. “IN THE HILLS” was a song I myself couldn’t stop replaying once I made it.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I want to inspire you to do you. No matter how you may feel, the fact is, no one can do you better than you can.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
I have had to cram studio time around a job, and it does take time. It took a while to balance my creativity and time, but we’re getting there.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I would collaborate with Earl Sweatshirt. I feel like we could go bar for bar and make some shit that’s timeless.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
To infinity and beyond. But for real, to some higher places than I currently am.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Play a festival! Or at least a few shows that are packed.
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
Listen on Spotify
