What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My stage name is RedWinter, and I was born in Orange County, California, and raised in Texas.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Winter represents the cold—not just the weather but also the coldness I’ve experienced from people. It also symbolizes snow, fresh beginnings, and clean slates. The first part of the name, Red, represents the blood I’ve spilled on said snow to get where I am today—still breathing but no longer pure, like fresh snow. That’s a summarized version, but it has multiple other meanings I’m excited to share as I gain more fans interested in my music and life.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I started making real music after my friend encouraged me to try it when we used to freestyle together all the time. Now, I find it very freeing.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
While creating “Losing Myself/Ripped Jeans,” one of my best friends texted me that he saw the girl I mention in the song with a new man who looked uncannily like me. He said the man had painted black nails, and she was wearing short black ripped jeans. I turned to smoking a lot to feel okay, which inspired the chorus: “Black nails, ripped jeans, and smoke in my lungs.” I thought it was a way to speak to her without saying anything directly. A common theme in my songs is my experience with bad relationships, but my music goes much deeper, and I can’t wait to share more with my audience.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I have a lot in mind for portraying my mental state over the years through my music. Most of it is a puzzle within deep lyrics, connecting different songs and giving them even more depth.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
A physical challenge has been learning how to mix and master my own tracks to portray the sound I want. This is something I’m still improving at and will never stop getting better at.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I would love to work with Samsa because he is a big inspiration for my style, and his use of wordplay is almost unmatched. I’d also love to collaborate with artists like Powfu, Rxseboy, and BoyWithUke because of the way they express their emotions in their music, which is a big inspiration to me as well.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I see myself performing for people who find safety in my music. I firmly believe that community is paramount and strive to create a group of people from all different backgrounds, ethnic groups, and walks of life.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
The next big step for me is learning how to market myself and my music, which is something I currently struggle with.
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
You can find my music on Spotify and almost every other platform, including Apple Music, under the same handle. Here’s the link to tune into my newest creation: Losing Myself/Ripped Jeans.
