What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My stage name is J Davon Harris, and I’m from Albany, NY.

What’s the story behind your stage name?
It’s my real name, actually. I previously went by JQ, which was a nickname, but as I matured, I dropped that and decided to use my given name.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
In three sentences: my musical journey has been progressive. It’s been a learning experience. Lastly, there’s more to come.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
My latest track was the last song, “Snow Globe,” on my EP Asset Allocation. I landed back home from a vacation in the Bahamas, and the first thing I did was turn a beat on and write.

What message do you want to convey through your music?
To live life and enjoy it. My message is always to go out and pursue what you want.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Not particularly during production, but during post (mixing/mastering). The Asset Allocation tape came from recording sessions for a completely different project. The challenge was that we collectively wanted to perfect the mix, but we had a lot of songs, so we picked a few, and that became Asset Allocation.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I really want to work with an R&B artist. We need those distinct Hip Hop and R&B collabs. If I could pick an artist, I’d love to work with SZA.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I already have Q4 plans in place to elevate my music next year. More content that highlights my music but also shares more of my lifestyle. I feel like I have a pretty cool life.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
I can’t give details, but everyone will see a lot more of me in different forms of media.

We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Yes.

Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
Yes.
