What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My name is Kar. I am from Baltimore, Maryland.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Kar is a nickname, a shortened version of my actual name. I like to keep things simple and authentic, much like my music.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
Music was my first love, but I struggle with sharing it with the world. I know I’m solid, but my introverted nature conflicts with the typical rapper lifestyle. Still, here we are.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
This track was a creative exercise. I kept everything organic—no deleting lines or rewrites. I even recorded the track without redoing any takes, stumbling over lyrics and leaving it in, all in the spirit of artistic authenticity.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
We’re all human, trying to figure things out. Life is hard for everyone, but we can still be or do whatever we want.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
My biggest struggle is perfectionism, but this song was an exercise in embracing imperfection. I wanted to prove to myself that the need for perfection isn’t necessary.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I would love to collaborate with The Alchemist. His production is so beautiful and would complement my style perfectly.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I see myself going on tour and having a couple of viral songs next year. I’m patient, though, and I know this will take hard work.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Releasing my next few singles and pushing them hard. I’m confident that these songs will turn some nonbelievers into fans.
We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Yes, for sure.
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
I’m open to suggestions.
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
My next single, “Borrowed Abundance,” drops October 1st, with a music video shot by Johnny Kapahala releasing on October 8th.
