Artist Introduction

What’s your stage name and where are you from?

Mike Pennino (from New Jersey, but live in North Carolina)

What’s the story behind your stage name?

I went with my name as my stage name because I am the same person on stage as I am off stage.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

Music has been a blessing for me in both good and bad times throughout my life. God actually used music to bring me to faith in Jesus. Since I trusted in Jesus, I’ve wanted to use music to point people to God and help people through hard times.

Fan Engagement

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.

During that time, my brother, his wife, and I were using the phrase “pick it up” in a fun playful way to mess with each other (like come on pick it up and get that task done). When I started writing to the beat of the song “Pick It Up” that phrase kept coming to mind, so I used it. I’m grateful that even the little things in life with people I love impact my music.

What message do you want to convey through your music?

I really want to convey the message of the gospel, which is the good news that God sent Jesus to die for our sins and that He rose from the dead on the third day to bring us life. At the end of the day, I want people to know that God really wants them and they can turn to Him.

Behind the Music

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

The production of “Pick It Up” actually went smoothly, but being vulnerable in my verse about a moment when I was having a hard time with God wasn’t easy to write. I knew however it was necessary to share that experience because sometimes what is keeping us from picking up the good in life is us and our focus. Sometimes our focus is off and we don’t see the good that God has provided us.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

So many artists come to mind. The top 2 would be Eminem and Lecrae. Eminem was the one who got me interested in hip-hop. Lecrae was the artist that God really used to get me to really think about Jesus and start reading the Bible to learn more about Jesus.

Future Aspirations

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?

I’m not sure, but I do see myself growing more as an artist and becoming a better artist. And whatever comes of that and wherever God sends me next, I am down.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?

My next big step as an artists is to continue to grow and perform in more places.
