What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My name is NVY, born in Florida and moved out to MA.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
The name NVY is an anagram for “Niggas View Yours.” Whether you’re aware of it or not, someone is eyeing your plate. People tend to be envious of others, and learning not to be envious has been a personal challenge for me.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
This journey has been a roller coaster, experiencing the lowest ends of music-making to just having fun with the crowd. It’s been exhilarating, meeting new people and networking. This journey has helped me get out of my shell and learn new things.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I had some trouble trying to explain the process and how I wanted the song “Why Am I” to play out. It describes the joys of working through your issues and traumas.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Life is more than just getting up and paying bills. We need to enjoy the little things just as much as the big ones.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Learning to produce and engineer has been a challenge. Trying to be creatively different while making sense to everyone who hears my work is tough, but I’m pushing through.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
The main two artists I would love to collaborate with are MIKE and Isaiah Rashad. Both have been an inspiration to me for the past five years, especially in how they’ve grown as artists. I’d also love to work with producers like The Alchemist and J. Cole.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I have a few ideas, but I kind of want to see where the road takes me.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Trying to go out west to LA and have a few shows in different states.
We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Yes, absolutely.
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
Anything that would help; I keep searching every day.
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
I’m on all platforms, YouTube, SoundCloud, and if you’re a real one, you can catch me on Bandcamp.
What is the best way to contact you if fans want to give feedback or if other artists/producers want to collaborate?
