What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Bass DA Lingo, and I am born and raised in Harlem, NY.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Mase was a huge influence on us as a rapper. So I switched the name from Mase to Bass. Also, Bass is a deep musical instrument. Or putting bass in your voice means to talk with a deep voice. It’s a metaphor for how deep I can get. Dalingo (Or DA Lingo) comes from me being in a group. One of the members thought it was a good idea to have a first and last name, and that’s when I came up with Dalingo, pronounced The Lingo.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
It’s been a bit frustrating but also exciting. Marketing costs money, and sometimes the money you spend doesn’t come back as an unknown artist. It’s a great feeling when people hear my work and appreciate it.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
As I was recording a song at the studio, I couldn’t get the flow I was going for. I cut out two words, and the flow came out impeccable. It was a learning experience in breath control and understanding that sometimes less is more.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I want my music to touch people personally. I create motivational music for the mind, body, and soul. My main goal is to make music you can feel and become motivated to reach your full potential.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Going into the studio, the song doesn’t always come out the way I envisioned it. More often than not, my songs do, but when they don’t, I scrap or redo them until they feel right. I’ve learned to stick to the formula that works but also like to switch up my style for a challenge.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I would love to collaborate with Nas, Kendrick Lamar, or J. Cole. Nas is my idol, and Kendrick and J. Cole are incredible artists whose music deeply resonates with me. I think I could challenge and learn from them.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I want to use my music to open doors in other aspects of my career. I’m a personal trainer, and I think my motivational music can help build my brand.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
The next big step is to put money toward marketing, build my business, and secure funding to grow my platform.
We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Yes, this would be something I’d be honored to do.
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
Yes, I’m always looking for promotional opportunities like open mic events to showcase my talent.
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
My music is on all platforms. I’m working on building up my email list, and my music videos will be up on YouTube soon.
What is the best way to contact you if fans want to give feedback or if other artists/producers want to collaborate?
Email is best: m@bdalingo.com.
