What’s your stage name and where are you from?
I’m Romano Alexander, and I am from North Carolina.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Romano comes from the Roman Empire, my favorite ancient civilization. Alexander is an homage to my brother.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I started listening to reggaeton since I was a little kid; I remember driving in the car with my dad listening to Tego, Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, etc. I made my first song at the age of 15 called “Sentimientos.” After that, I took a long time away from music and returned in 2022 with the song “Fue Un Placer.”
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I am a super fan of early to late 2000s reggaeton, which inspired the track “Descontrol.” This track takes inspiration from Don Omar’s hit classic “Dile,” my dad’s favorite reggaeton song.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I want to show off my Latin culture, happiness, and fiesta vibes—good vibes all the time.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Finding time for everything has definitely been a challenge. Life as an up-and-coming independent artist isn’t the easiest financially either.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Well, I would’ve said Daddy Yankee because he’s my favorite artist of all time, but since he’s retired, I’d say J Alvarez. He’s been one of my inspirations and is a real slept-on artist.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I would like to start doing some independent shows, maybe another EP or mixtape.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
I think the next big step would be to get signed by a record label or get the attention of a big artist.
We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Yes, of course.
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
Connections.
