What’s your stage name and where are you from?
LAJ215 from Norristown, Pennsylvania (right outside Philadelphia).
What’s the story behind your stage name?
My stage name originally started out as an inside joke between my friends in a group chat back in high school. Then it found its way out of the group chat joking one day, and other people kinda ran with it. People just started calling me Laj, and it stuck.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
My musical journey has been educational. It’s been super unpredictable for sure. But it’s a dream come true for my younger self.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I’m always working, so it’s hard to think about something interesting. But something memorable was getting the notification on my phone about Rich Homie Quan passing as I was editing a piece of content for my new release recently.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Just to reach higher for yourself, have integrity, and find beauty in the fruits of labor and the labor itself. Mental health is important.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Grief—it always comes and goes with life daily. Everyone grieves differently, and not everyone grieves the same. It just takes time; it’s something you have to ride out.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
The Alchemist. He’s a legend, and I mean, do I really have to explain myself?
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
The next best high.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
A live band—I really wanna get my records outside and perform more.
We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Yes.
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
I’d like to get into modeling—I think that would be fun.
