What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My stage name is ThatsCarl, and I’m from Memphis, TN.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
I want people to feel that they know me. So, placing THAT before my name will hopefully warm people up to me and my music.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
My mother noticed that I would sing and dance when music was played over the radio when I was a child. I started playing in a neighborhood band called Electric Blue when I was about 13. I began writing songs in my early 20s.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I wrote Show Me several years ago, and I changed it to fit the current musical environment.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Peace and calm. I want to de-stress people and take them away so they can forget about their problems, even if it’s only for a little while.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
The track Show Me was completed at two different studios because the engineers could not get it right. They took the punch right out of the song, and we had to put it back.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I would want to collaborate with an artist called Zio. She is not famous yet, but she has a very unique voice that will fit perfectly with a song that I wrote.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
The song Show Me has over 25,000 streams and is growing each day. I believe that I will be in a good position at 100,000 streams to start touring. Promoters and large record labels look at Spotify streams.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Increase my fan base. Hopefully, the more people hear my songs, the more they will be willing to share them.
We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Yes.
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
Any type of media coverage, online events, or even helping nonprofit organizations reach their goals.
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
Here is my latest track on Spotify: Show Me.
