Artist Spotlight: UKE.Nada from New York City

17

What’s your stage name and where are you from?
UKE.Nada, from New York City, but you’re more likely to find me on the beach!

What’s the story behind your stage name?
The writing process for each song is done with nothing but a Ukulele. I wanted to strip back the production and people involved, sit someplace quiet, and find the music within myself. Usually, I write and practice near water for peace and inspiration. So the stage name to me just means “nothing but the ukulele.”

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
Ukulele Chords. Harmony. Lyrics.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
Caught a sandbar shark while filming content on the beach for my latest track “Skies Stay Blue.” We spent a few weeks on the beach fishing, writing, and recording. Best weeks of the year!

What message do you want to convey through your music?
Actively practice appreciation. We all take what we have for granted. Consume as much positive content while you can.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
The balance between just recording the ukulele and vocals and adding more production to make it appeal to a broader audience. I allow myself to go either direction and allow the song to dictate what sounds best, but make sure the song is fully written before adding any additional production. All of my songs first exist as an acoustic version.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Ed Sheeran. Doing a stadium tour with a guitar and loop pedal defies logic, and it was beyond amazing to watch.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Hopefully spending more time by the ocean, grabbing content, and writing music. Looking forward to doing my first live performances with the Uke.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Performing live and maximizing social content to allow people a look behind the scenes and get to know me better. I can be a pretty private person, so finding unique ways to engage that don’t require me going live for breakfast. My journey is just beginning; I want to find genuine ways to connect with early fans and spread positive vibes.

We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Yes, of course.

Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
Whatever comes my way, I am open-minded.

Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
Instagram is where I am most active: UKE.Nada on Instagram
