My name is Willthaking, and I’m from Chicago.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Will is short for my name and I added the King to show where I plan on being
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
One day I looked in the mirror and realized I didn’t like where my life was headed. So I grew out my hair and started a self discovery journey. Music just happened to be the art I fell for.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I was down at SXSW, and just viewing all creative vibes in Austin helped me feel more at ease with enjoying the creative experience. Random encounters and the little conversations spark new ideas.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I want to show that even though life isn’t treating you the best, you can still persevere. You don’t have to fit a mold
Behind the Music
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
I started out mixing and mastering my own music, so developing a trained ear was a huge challenge…and that’s where you learn. The only way to get better at your craft is to put the time in. It’ll poke through the haze eventually
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
J Cole. I’m the oldest of 8 and almost every life event I’ve been through, he has made a song describing EXACTLY how I felt. With bars. It’s eerily uncanny but I like it. I’ve got to catch him before the Fall Off lol
Future Aspirations
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I have my own label, Dark Space Entertainment, and I hope I can collab and create even better tracks and really touch someone’s heart
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Performing, lol I’ve been avoiding it lately but I’ve got to rock the mic in person in order to be the best
