What’s your stage name and where are you from?
WinterBeez from El Paso, TX
What’s the story behind your stage name?
I used to be a beekeeper and always was very inspired by the lives of honeybees. In the winter, they go through this crazy process where they all huddle together to keep each other warm. I always thought that was really inspiring the way they ride for each other. WinterBeez are thicker, live longer, and keep the hive alive till Spring. They are sometimes called “forever young.” Essentially…. they just built different.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
Been doing music since I was 12 and I been out here making a name for myself in multiple cities. I used to rap at open mics, cyphers, and local shows when I was 13 and I used to go by the stage name “Baby Bleu.” I have finally matured into my style and am ready to take everything I’ve learned over the years to the NEXT LEVEL.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
Working with DJ Pause in the booth was hella fun. I had to do multiple vocal styles to achieve the chaotic vibe I had written for the song. One of the voices on the hook is kinda pop-punky so whenever we needed to record another track or layer we would call it the “Blink 182” voice. I’d be like “yo hold on lets redo the Blink 182 voice right quick.”
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I just try to be genuine to be honest. I do generally try to make my music medicinal. Even if it’s not a “happy” or “positive” song, I try to infuse it with the appreciation I have for life. Basically, even when I’m down bad I try to be grateful for the experience and the lessons.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Wheeewww. This bread! Im just tryna get to this bread to I can afford the gear, the services, the art, the promotion for my songs to hit the way I’d like em’ to. So much goes into producing and releasing a song. I’m working on getting better at producing my own beats as well.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I feel like I would be fire on a track with Snow Da Product, Payaso915, Kali Uchis, or Lil Wayne. I don’t actually know how much my style goes with Weezy but shiiiii I just wanna kick it and collab with him. I love him.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
This year I’ma focus on booking these shows and traveling more. I just want to expand with my music and grow. I go to a lot of lowrider car shows but this year, I’m tryna get paid to be there you feel me?
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Producing all my own beats and getting better at mixing is my goal for this coming year.
