Atlanta-based artist Rex Novi (RxN), originally from Memphis, Tennessee, is a dynamic force in the music industry. With a career spanning over a decade, he has honed his skills as a songwriter, engineer, and performer. RxN is not only passionate about creating music but also about fostering a community for independent artists. He co-founded “Fresh and Local,” an independent artist collective, and owns Black Mettle Soundworks, a studio dedicated to high-quality music production. His eclectic taste is evident in his appreciation for vinyl records, vintage instruments, and synthesizers. Influenced by a diverse range of artists, including The Native Tongues, The Soulquarians, Dangermouse, Jack White, Gil Scott Heron, Serj Tankian, and Soul Coughing, Rex Novi aims to push creative boundaries and inspire future generations of music lovers.
‘Prologue’ marks Rex Novi’s debut as a solo artist, showcasing his versatility and depth. The EP serves as the first installment of a planned three-part series, each exploring different facets of his musical identity. Comprising five tracks, ‘Prologue’ delves into introspective themes, blending various genres to create a unique soundscape. The project was born out of a desire to have more engaging material for live performances, leading to a collection that balances emotional depth with audience appeal.
The opening track, “Something Old,” sets the tone with its spoken-word delivery and minimalist instrumentation, reflecting on personal transitions and the feeling of being caught between past and future. “Terror!” shifts gears with its electro-pop elements, presenting a haunting yet infectious sound. “Clink” and “Learn” continue the exploration of modern anxieties, addressing themes like digital overload and societal pressures. The EP culminates with “Get Out There,” produced by Chxlds and featuring J Nolan, offering a motivational anthem that encourages listeners to embrace their potential.
