Artist Introduction
What’s your name and where are you from?
My name is Paintriiip and I’m from Atlanta, GA
What’s the story behind your stage name?
When I was 18, I had already been making music for a few years at that point, and I was looking to change my name to something that really felt like me. One day I had taken acid and I was listening to a song I was working on and it just hit me that this is my form of painting pictures and music was but another canvas for me to express myself on. The words pain/paint/trip felt like they coincided with each other because life’s a trip and life is pain and I’m just painting that pain (in the words of my 18 year old self haha). So I combined the words and created paintriiip and I just loved the way it sounded every time I said it.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I fell in love with music at a really early age and always imagined what it’d be like to be an artist. It wasn’t until I was a teenager that I decided it was what I wanted to do forever. I’m 25 now and I’m still in love with it and plan to keep going forward with it!
Fan Engagement
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
With most songs, sometimes I’ll be working on them for months at a time without any kind of inspiration striking, but with this song, it was like every single had that spark and I never tired of it. Everything just felt so seamless. It’s ironic because the song is about overthinking but I didn’t feel like I had to second guess so much in the creation process.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Honestly, it would just be to not care about what anybody thinks and to find a way to be comfortable in your own skin and to do whatever feels right to you, whatever it is that’s keeping you alive.. keep doing that!
Behind the Music
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Honestly, a lot of times I struggle with coming up with basslines or melodies that I actually like but on this song everything I did play felt so right and I got there by just feeling out the music instead of thinking so much about it.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I would love to collaborate with Isaiah Rashad. I’ve been a huge fan of his music for years and I feel like I could definitely produce something for him. I don’t know if we’d match vocally on a track but I have so many beats in the vault that I feel like he could get on.
Future Aspirations
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Hopefully in front of a bigger audience and in a position to have more opportunities to bring some of my larger ideas to life with some really creative people!
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
To live off of making music and being able to put my friends and loved ones in positions to make their dreams their reality.
