Artist Introduction
What’s your stage name and where are you from? Sage X Price, Los Angeles
What’s the story behind your stage name? It’s just my real name with my middle name blanked out. I made music underneath my middle name for a little bit and didn’t want the two of them to overlap. I wish I had a cooler story than that lol.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences. It can be hard at times to be so vulnerable to an unknown amount of people. But thanks to the people in my life I’ve seen how my music affects people in person. Because of that, I don’t think I’ll ever stop.
Fan Engagement
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track. I have a song called “Fix You Up” that I recorded recently that pleasantly surprised me. I’m not one to use my falsetto too much in songs but for this one, I decided to really lean on it and I was shocked to hear my voice could hold a tone that high at all. Hopefully, you’ll hear it soon and see what I mean.
What message do you want to convey through your music? That the people who relate to it aren’t alone. I’ve always looked for a point of relativity in the music I listen to, most times it can be hard for me to find it. So I really hope that my music can make a space in the listener’s mind that they can go back to and feel comfortable in.
Behind the Music
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it. I tend to create alone and I think getting out of that loop was the hardest challenge to face. As of the last year, I’ve been collaborating a lot more with the artists around me. At first, it was really tough for me because I was so used to getting things done at my own workflow. I tend to put pressure on myself to work fast when I’ve got other people in the room because I don’t want anyone’s time to feel wasted. But after letting the pressure get to me over and over, I realized I wasn’t happy with the songs coming out of these sessions. I stepped back and made a conscious effort to take my time; to really let myself be comfortable in a session, and to also not get annoyed if the song doesn’t sound like what’s in my head. What’s the point of collaborating if the other people on the song aren’t putting in their new ideas, ya know?
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why? King Krule. He’s one of the reasons I’m alive. His music holds a BIG place in my heart and it’s always been a dream of mine to collaborate with him in some capacity.
Future Aspirations
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year? I see it taking me on the road to support some bigger artists, hopefully overseas. And I think it’ll start to put me in the rooms of artists who I really look up to.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist? Thankfully I’ve been able to tour very early in my artist career so I’d like to capitalize on those connections I’ve made on the road and start to do shows on my own. I’ve also got a song with Westside Boogie coming out next month and that will be a big moment for me.
