Sudbury native and indie hip-hop shape-shifter Max Moon makes a bold, poetic entrance with his debut solo single “Little Do They Know”, the first look into his upcoming project The Grand Howl. Known for his gritty vocal work with horrorcore trio Magick Show, Max takes an unexpected detour here—ditching the gore in favor of glitched-out jazz-rap, raw reflection, and barstool poetics. It’s a track that doesn’t just ask for your attention—it earns it.
Produced by Toronto MPC titan Fresh Kils, one of only two guest producers on the record, the track lives in that sweet spot between the analog and the surreal. Fresh Kils’ canvas is warped and off-kilter—full of twitching hi-hats, disjointed horns, and basslines that crawl under your skin. Over this sonic chaos, Max doesn’t just rap—he sketches, he sculpts, he soul-searches. “Don’t need much, a hand to hold, some skin to touch,” he offers—not as a throwaway line, but as a thesis. It’s a declaration of modesty in a genre often chasing grandeur.
There’s a deliberate tension in how Max delivers his bars: unhurried, almost conversational, but loaded with metaphor and weight. It feels like a secret being shared in plain sight. And while the vibe may be lo-fi and jazzy, make no mistake—this is not background music. It demands presence. There’s a firm resistance to convention in Max’s approach; he isn’t trying to fit into any scene, he’s building his own.

What’s most compelling about “Little Do They Know” is how it embodies contradiction. It’s both abstract and grounded. Strange, yet deeply human. The song doesn’t shout to be heard, but it echoes long after it ends. This is a track for the heads, for the writers, for the listeners who want art with edges.
With The Grand Howl set to release this summer, Max Moon is stepping out from the shadows and into his own mythos. If this first single is any indicator, he’s not aiming to be another voice in the crowd—he’s crafting his own dialect, rooted in the North, shaped by experience, and guided by instinct.
