Ozzient’s Audio Revolution: Weaving Sound into Self-Care

6

Ozzient is a Guatemalan music producer based in Chicago, a city known for its rich and eclectic musical history. What sets him apart is his distinctive approach to blending and mixing different genres, driven by a versatile skillset that includes freestyling on the piano, beatboxing, and playing the traditional percussion instrument, the güira. Rather than solely focusing on his own vocals, Ozzient primarily produces the beats and then scouts for artists who are a good fit for the track, occasionally stepping in to deliver a hook on his own tracks.

His collaborative journey began with his first-ever track, “Love You Can’t Resist,” released on January 26th, 2023, which featured Øverdrive and LandoIsLiving, artists he met through an Instagram music group chat. Since then, his output has grown to include several singles, an upcoming R&B album, and a lo-fi instrumental EP.

In the bustling, high-stakes world of Chicago production, Ozzient operates with a calm and meditative energy. His work, which sees him effortlessly move from lo-fi to drum n bass in “Chill Thrills” , to the darker tones of his latest track, “Evil Ways”, feels less like a pursuit of trends and more like an act of sonic self-discovery. This approach speaks directly to the need for healing through creativity, especially when navigating the heavy silence of mental health stigma in artistic communities.

Art often demands vulnerability, yet the pressure to appear “ready” or “strong” can make artists internalize struggles, fearing that expressing fragility will negate their creative power. Ozzient’s music offers a quiet remedy. His process—building the beat, then meticulously finding the perfect collaborating voice —is an externalization of internal grounding. When he chooses to step forward and sing, as he does on the powerful chorus of “Peace, Not War”, it is a measured, significant statement, a step toward embracing his own voice as a source of peace, not just production.

His upcoming R&B album and the promise of a track featuring multiple collaborators suggest an artist who understands that true strength comes from connection and honest expression. Ozzient’s blend of styles, whether it’s the dedicated versatility he observed in Pronto Valid or the skill of Øverdrive and LandoIsLiving, transforms his music into a sanctuary—a meticulously constructed space where diverse talents can convene. His music isn’t loud about its struggles; it is a gentle, yet firm, assurance that the act of making, blending, and creating is, in itself, the most profound form of healing.
