Artist Introduction

What’s your name and where are you from?

Abby Power, North West London

What’s the story behind your stage name?

I actually don’t have a stage name, this is my actual name. Power seemed too good an opportunity to pass up especially when it’s already my surname!

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

Challenging, fulfilling, resilient

Fan Engagement

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.

99.9% of my music is recorded in my bedroom so it’s hard to get any crazy story’s as it’s just me alone. I contemplated making a story up but that wouldn’t be authentic, so you’ll just have to accept I’m pretty unexciting haha

What message do you want to convey through your music?

I know full well my life experiences aren’t always solely my own. I know that for many of the things I’ve experienced there are people out there who have experienced the same things too, so I write music from my perspective sometimes talking to myself, sometimes talking to the audience, but always with the aim to reach someone who can relate to the words, and hopefully make them realise they aren’t alone. It’s also nice to be able to vent and know there are people who feel the same, a problem shared is a problem halved!

Behind the Music

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

My expertise once recording is done is very limited so that means I can’t produce or mix/master the tracks you all hear. I simply write the lyrics, perform, record and export the stems and off it goes to people (mainly SamXVI) who are more talented than me! Not being able to do it all myself is a challenge to me because I’m a bit of a control freak so it would be great if I could, and I’d probably release more frequently, but at the same time the people I work with bring an element of themselves to my music that I could never bring, and I love that, so in hindsight, it’s not the worst thing me being limited in talents ha.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

This answer changes every time I’m asked it but today’s answer is between Raye or Dolly Parton Raye – been listening to her for 5+ years and witnessing the evolution of such an incredible artist has been amazing. I recently saw her at the 02 and it was one of the best shows I’ve ever been to. Her vocal range and writing is impeccable and her personality leaves you wanting to be friends with her. She’s just so talented and her success story really is something to be admired and inspired by. Resilience personified. Dolly – c’mon, do I even need to explain? Imagine having just an hour to speak to her about her experiences over the years in the industry and soaking in all the gems. Now imagine saying you got to work with her on a song and collaborate? What a dream! She’s a legend, and has always been so authentic.

Future Aspirations

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?

I’m just hoping to get my next project off the ground and reach new fans worldwide 🙂

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?

I just want to continue building on my fanbase. I don’t aspire for fame, just a loyal fanbase who love the music I make and support each time a new piece of music drops!
