Artist Introduction
What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My name is Big O and I’m from the 3rd coast. Born in ATL, raised in Birmingham and lived all over. Currently out in London for now.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
My old friend who moved back to China back in 2007 used to mention how tall and big I was every time we stood next to each other and she just said she is gonna call me “Big O” for now on and it pretty much just stuck with me from there.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
Ok, in three sentences, I would say my musical Journey started back when I bought “2001” when it first came out in ‘99. As soon as I heard “The Next Episode” in a mix on the radio in the car back in 2000, it truly sparked something in me and it was never the same. Ever since then, I’ve been making music nonstop and my style involved due to my travels around the world and maturity.
Fan Engagement
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
Truth be told, I was approached by the label Chillhop Guru back in January of this year to get involved in this project. While making the song, it was a cold and rainy day out here in London and I had to just think of something to inspire me to make this track. Since I couldn’t grab any type of inspiration from nature or looking out my window. I went my own discography and drew inspiration from myself through my own music.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I just want people to relax. Reflect on themselves and think a bit. Life’s too short to be sad and mad all of the time.
Behind the Music
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Sometimes I would get a beat block during creation and stuck on a melody. It would be in my head, but kind of difficult to get my hands to play it out. Sometimes I would listen to some instrumental tracks from my favorite producers to gain a bit of inspiration to jumpstart my creative battery. After that, I’ll go through some of my latest work and more inspiration will come from that. Before I know it, I’m back to creating again and whatever I’m working on is done.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
There’s two actually…. Lupe Fiasco and Ab-Soul. I love those two artist so much and been fans of them for decades. The way they rhyme and tell stories are just simply amazing and I always look forward in anything they release. I just want to at least do one record with either of them. If I can get both of them on a track together that’s even better!
Future Aspirations
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Next year, I’m calling it now…. I’m winning more awards, going to end up on the charts somewhere and gain another plaque. The stuff I have coming next year is going to be insane! I have a different sound and it’s truly exciting!
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
As far as next big step goes for me, I can’t really say right now because I’m doing it. Plus I just signed a 2 year distribution partnership deal with Symphonic a month ago and I’m still soaking that in.
