Artist Introduction

What’s your stage name and where are you from?

My name is B. Christo, and I’m from Detroit.

What’s the story behind your stage name?

I chose the name because after surviving five gunshots and getting run over three times, I woke up on the third day. I only had a 10% chance of living, and the doctors thought I would never come out of the coma I was in. In that place, I found a new light within me—the connection between God and man, something more than the eyes could see. The word “Christ” actually comes from the word “Christos,” which means to be anointed. I chose to drop the “s” so a person could immediately make the connection that I’m referring to being “Christ too” or Christ-like.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

My music is the connection between the physical and the spiritual realm; its expression comes from my determination. I never gave up, no matter how many times I was incarcerated, baller blocked, or even damn near killed. Awakening through overwhelming odds and challenges, my journey has been about survival and self-discovery.

Fan Engagement

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.

Strangely enough, the first time I heard the beat, I immediately gravitated towards it. Something about Bvtman Beats really speaks to my soul, so I came up with the lyrics in one day. Keep in mind I’m not able to see anymore because I took a bullet through the brain, so that took a lot of reciting and memorizing. Even though I came up with the lyrics that quickly, I did not actually record this song until a year and a half later when I discovered BandLab. People kept playing with my time and money in the studio, so I decided to record myself with my eyes closed.

What message do you want to convey through your music?

We are all one with God. That’s the connection that the powers that be don’t want us to know. People like the Pope, the Vatican, and the United Nations don’t want us to realize what Jesus was actually trying to teach, which is that God is inside each and every individual. We all have the power to create, destroy, and even cast miracles when we know that power. We are more than just a sacrifice; each and every one of us is connected to God and the universe. Music like this will open up your mind to those types of possibilities.

Behind the Music

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

I actually went through a lot more challenges than I expected. People chose to take advantage of me because of my blindness more than they chose to help me. I had scams run on me, certain social media pages hacked, and individuals playing with my money for videos, studio time, and audio-video recording for the documentary I’m trying to create. Every time someone tried to interfere with my bag or the music I was creating, I found a way to do things myself, even despite not being able to see.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

This one’s kind of hard because I have eclectic taste, but I am such a hip-hop collector. My version of a Hall of Fame artist is someone like Pharoahe Monch or Joey Bada$$. They make music that not only gives you that feeling of nostalgia that brings you back to your roots but also uplifts the soul and makes you think bigger than your environment. If I was having one of those days where I was purely on some gangster stuff, though, it would have to be Boldy James. I feel like he’s the best rapper in Detroit, Michigan. Besides me, of course, LBVS!

Future Aspirations

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?

Nationwide, hopefully. I believe that once people get the full story of what happened to me, they’ll not only see the value in the music but the things I’ve survived.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?

Well, I learned so much about digital marketing that I’m trying to take my music to the next level by getting it into the hands of bloggers like yourself, radios, and even live TV and music shows/performances on an international level. I found through my past experiences under my old artist name that it’s best to do it slow and steady instead of releasing a huge body of work. It’s better to waterfall the projects. I believe by the time this album reaches the 10th track, I will be on that level. They’re already lined up in the chamber; I just gotta make sure they reach the right hands.
