Artist Introduction

What’s your stage name and where are you from?

My stage name is my real name, I’m Silas Armstrong from South London, United Kingdom.

What’s the story behind your stage name?

I’ve had many alter egos and different band names over the years but when I decided to release solo material it felt right to go by my real name. Silas comes from the Bible (named after a biblical convict) and Armstrong comes from the astronaut, I am legitimately an indirect relative of Neil Armstrong.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

Indie rock drummer turned synth pop keys player, new music radio producer/presenter for BBC / NME and more, a jack of all trades, master of none. I always wrote songs since I was a kid and during lockdown 2020 I found the confidence to launch my solo project. I write songs that mean something to me, hoping they connect with you too.

Fan Engagement

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.

For my latest track ‘Best Friends’ I reconnected with one of my oldest friends to shoot the music video. We filmed it in 4 hours on the streets around London Bridge with no permission and only got shutdown once.

What message do you want to convey through your music?

My songs are deeply personal but also open to interpretation. My music is seeped in nostalgia and references that anyone who grew up in the 90s/00s can relate to. Each song I write has a different message but there are themes of life, love and loss throughout.

Behind the Music

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

I re-recorded all the vocals at Pirate Studios and actually lost some of the magic from the original demo vocals, so in the end I mixed the guide vocals with the newer ‘better’ vocals to get the right blend and sound.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

Adele, Anne Marie, or Nina Nesbitt – I think they’d get me. We’re cut from the same cloth musically and I think our voices would compliment each other. I’d love to explore what kind of songs we could write together, and I love collaborating with female vocalists who can sing higher than me!

Future Aspirations

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?

Glastonbury Festival 2025, BBC Introducing stages, and a UK/EU support tour for a bigger artist.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?

Taking the new album ‘About Time’ on the road and performing these new songs live with a full band for the first time.
