What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My stage name is Jerard Rice, and I’m from New England.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
I’ve had three stage names: J Rice, with releases like Bet on It; Rice, with tracks such as Blog It and New Jack No Brady. However, while working with Oliver Sean and WOA Records, they felt it would be easier to find me under my full name, Jerard Rice.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
It started as something therapeutic during a challenging time in my childhood. My brother M-EZY and I collaborated and formed a company, but I had to choose to focus on one brand: Jerard Rice, who was making real strides in the industry. This journey hasn’t come without sacrifice, but it has been rewarding.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
Doug Flutie Foundation allowed me to be open about my autism. Their annual festival put me on bigger stages with people who gave me a platform to celebrate my autism and express myself. While it may be invisible to others, I believe it contributes to my creativity in ways many don’t realize.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Perseverance. If I can overcome my challenges and obstacles, you can pursue your passions and not let anyone dictate your value, worth, or dreams. Growth comes with hard work.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
My music is based on my experiences and perspectives. Personal obstacles make my journey longer, but they also make it incredibly rewarding. The biggest challenges often lead to the most growth. Don’t expect from others what you don’t give yourself.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Honestly, I want to stick with my day ones and my circle.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I see more booked gigs and preparing for my second international tour in 2026.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
The release of Starvin’, a track off my project Love Shouldn’t Cost a Thing, on January 24th. Visuals will follow when the weather improves, and the full project will drop in June or July.
