What’s your stage name and where are you from?
my name is willoh and i’m from springfield missouri
What’s the story behind your stage name?
I grew up playing video games, using “willoh” whenever “willow” was taken, and it stuck as a part of my personality.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I grew up surrounded by music, with my earliest memory being playing guitar, though I doubt it sounded as good as I remember. The youngest video I’ve seen of myself is performing “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” for my grandma, who always supported my creative side. While I took guitar lessons when I was very young, I mostly learned on my own, allowing my creativity to flourish independently.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
For my latest track, “why do we,” the process was completely different from my usual approach. I received an email from a producer named Richy Beats, and as soon as I heard the beat, I immediately started recording—which isn’t typical for me. Everything flowed so naturally that I finished the entire song in one night, didn’t make any changes afterward, and released it as it was.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I want to convey diversity through my music, reflecting my wide range of inspirations and ever-changing style. My mood can shift daily, my music reflects that with each track, allowing me to express myself differently every time I record. I hope to inspire people to embrace creativity, experiment fearlessly, and never limit themselves to one approach.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
One of my biggest challenges during production is staying motivated. My creative process is very emotion-driven, and I often start a track based on a specific feeling I want to express. However, when that feeling fades, it can be hard to reconnect and finish the track. I’ve learned to overcome this by stepping away when needed and returning with fresh energy or using that disconnect to explore new perspectives within the same song.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
That’s a tough question because it’s less about a dream collaboration and more about whose style would blend with mine to create something unique. I could see many artists fitting that role, but Dijon stands out for his raw emotion and passion. I think collaborating with him would push me creatively and result in something really special.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I’m sure every passionate artist pictures themselves on a stage, but for me, it’s more about enjoying the dream. I see myself making music in my bedroom and with friends because that’s what it’s always been about for me. At the end of the day, it all comes down to doing what I love and embracing being a nerd about it.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
The next big step for me as an artist is releasing my upcoming album. It’s been a long process, but after recently signing to a label, it feels like everything is finally coming together. I’m so excited to share it with the world and hear what people think.
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
You can find my work on all streaming platforms under the name “willoh.” I’m also on YouTube under “willoh,” where I’ve uploaded a video for “willow’s interlude.”
