What’s your stage name and where are you from?

SURFACE GREY and I’m from Houston, TX

What’s the story behind your stage name?

I feel as if I’m the grey area of music I rap, sing, produce, and write. Area means the same thing as surface so I went with SURFACE GREY. I spelled “grey” like the Brits do for flair lol

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

My musical journey has been an interesting one. I’ve been ghostwriting at a label and before that was in a group now to my own solo career. All of it has been an experience, but I’m excited on what’s next to come.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.

The last track I created was one I was working on earlier today I already had the verse done, but I sampled some old A$AP Rocky for the hook.

What message do you want to convey through your music?

I just want to be able to spread love positivity and belief in one self because you can truly do anything you put your mind to if you work hard keep your faith and really embrace the grind.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

A lot of times when I’m producing I typically have a vision of what I want the end all to be with my music well lately I had a particular idea for this song but the first two to three versions of the song I wasn’t feeling I went and made two more songs with similar concept and funny enough one song because the song I was looking for and the other became another track on the same project for the album.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

Pharrell because I had a dream February 2020 right before the pandemic became a super problem. I know it will happen one day just because off that in my dream he was listening to some stuff I was playing and he told me how dope I was. If Pharrell doesn’t count cause he’s a producer too in most eyes I’d say Billie Eilish then. Been a huge fan of hers since I was in college and I just think she has one of the most amazing voices ever in music. Also, her songwriting skills along with her brother are so good.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?

Me personally, I see it taking me to the Grammys and/or a national tour whether that be opening for someone big or my own headlining.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?

I think my next big step is learning an instrument I’ve been around a lot of dope musicians and are constantly inspired by them, so, I definitely want to start embracing that more.
