What’s your stage name and where are you from?
wone from Los Angeles, California
What’s the story behind your stage name?
wone is derived from “young wone”. When said together in Korean, it means “forever”.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I love music. I wanted to try making music. I tried making music.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
Nine sent me some beats over Discord last year. I woke up in the middle of my sleep and drowsily went through a few of them. When I got to the “ITJIMA” beat, the idea and hook just came to me and I typed it to Nine before knocking out again. When I woke, I peeked at our DMs and the hook and some of the prechorus was made that same morning.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I want to be a voice for the kids who felt voiceless like I did. I want to conjure in them the confidence that’s so crucial for development; to do good.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
The release of art can get delayed for a plethora of reasons both explicable and inexplicable. Let me tell you this was a lot of inexplicable, but was the ultimate catharsis on release day. I’m grateful.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Vince Staples. Hilarious dude.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
More live performances. More countries. More everything.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
All the little steps and side steps in between to be honest. Need to be fearless in creation and output.
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
