What’s your stage name and where are you from?

Nicholai / Las Vegas,NV

What’s the story behind your stage name?

For the longest time I used a stage name because as a hip hop artist it’s just always been the way it was. I never fully liked it, so one day I realized I should just go by my birth name. But since my last name is Hermosillo, I figured best to just go by my first name.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

I spent a big part of my youth chasing the music dream. When nothing became of it, I unofficially stopped, I went years without writing or recording. One day the gate opened I started again, and this single is the first release of more to come.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.

So when I made the music to this song, it felt like the kind of song I always wanted to make. One day I just said the phrase that became the chorus. And I didnt know what to do with it, but it kind of reminded me of a PFunk type of thing, so I started to sing it, and built the music around what I was singing.

What message do you want to convey through your music?

Not sure exactly, perhaps maybe to just have fun with the music. These recent songs were the most fun I have had making music. No pressure, I just made music I wanted to make. You’ll see my following singles won’t sound too similar to the others.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

I think just the initial getting back into it. Opening up the creativity, i had to install drivers into my computer, buy a new interface, and stuff just to get started because it had been so long since I have used any of it.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

Not sure if this is meaning dead or alive, so ill answer for both:

Dead: curtis mayfield. I just think his music translates to hip hop so well, and me being such a fan, I could hear what a collab with him would sound like in my head.

Alive: black thought

To me he is the greatest, i would only want to produce, maybe talkbox or something.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?

My plan really is to just release all of these songs I have and see what happens with it.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?

I have 5 singles with BSides set up to release once a month starting June 27 with this song. I also intend to keep working on songs and continuing my single a b sides until I have no more.
