In our editorial vision, we draw focus to this release—an offering that carries the weight of craft, intention, and presence. Whether this is your first encounter with Axiom ThaWyze,Andy Idaho or a continued step along their path, the music calls for your full attention.

Once Axiom Tha Wyze and Andy Idaho combine, one is left with the sensation as an excavation through the lost strata of the Hip-Hop pedigree, gritty, layered, and deep-seated. Their blended album, Merfolk Space Program out on September 19, 2025, is a landmark of the underground rap music scene in Boise, which extends its reach way beyond Idaho. They had just come back after a successful tour of Europe, where their combination of boom-bap accuracy, politics, and lyricism worthy of a master left the heads nodding in the cities that still need real bars.

As soon as the record plays, it becomes obvious that Axiom and Andy are not attempting to fit into the clatter of the contemporary rap, they are here to take it on. The album seems like an exploration of a mission to a culture that is not giving in on its roots. Merfolk Space Program takes the traditional Hip-Hop sounds, including heavy samples, sharp flows, and thought-provoking narratives, and throws them into a realm where algorithms are not valued as much.

Axiom does much of the production, and creates a structure that is as rough as it is lyrical. The drums are struck like gravel with any pair of combat boots; the samples are brought out of some forgotten parts of jazz and movie. The entire project finds its level in the music of lyrical accuracy, which is based on Andy as a rough and forceful presence. Their chemistry cannot be ignored–Guru and Premier as they would have been growing up on West Coast smoke and Northwest winters.

Merfolk Space Program does very well in its rebellion. It is an antisurvivalist work and a song to the survival of Hip-Hop. This album has set no trends in commercial success; it creates a world to the listeners who desire thought, ability and raw emotion. At every song, Axiom and Andy draw people further into their ideology – that Hip-Hop is not disposable, but sacred.

Hip-Hop excellence may not be the first thing that people may relate to Boise, Idaho, but over the years Axiom Tha Wyze has been making it right to the sceptics. He has established his name, brick by brick, through grit and brain, not hype, because his lyricism is unremitting, and his catalogs are self-produced. Being a former emcee and producer, his work has a full-circle feel to it: he does not rap over beats but builds whole worlds.

Andy Idaho is his collaborator, and he completes that vision. The conscious thought and near militant control are sharpened through which Andy delivers. It is no breath wasted, all bars are intent, all verses are deserved. His pen is over with experience and rebellion, a poetic confidence and a street level knowledge of struggle. Their synergy is almost scientific in terms of a combination of aggression, intellectuality and heart.

Their recent European tour saw what the independent Hip-Hop can do when it is motivated by integrity and stability. They filled in places in Berlin to Paris without the support of major-labels showing that their trade knows no boundaries. This is what Merfolk Space Program has been all along, a movement that is made out of independency and intellect that is founded on the spirit of the original culture.

The name of the program is Merfolk Space Program, which is as fanciful as it is stratified. It implies survival in alien conditions-the notion of breathing in the space that is not for you, surviving against all odds. Both songs bring this theme of endurance and transcendence. The album is a reflection on what it is to make something when besieged by an industry that tends to ignore art to push what goes viral.

Songs such as State of EMRGNC and Glyph are a channeling of real Hip-Hop- that beat that cannot be matched by the trend-based playlists. Keep your feet off and Mud the energy in realism, tell the stories of hunger and fatherhood and perseverance, of how to do it, get up the ground. The mid part of the album, especially Catacombs and Grit, is much more dark, and it explores the theme of mortality, survival, in a filmic manner.

By the project getting to Highgrade Mindstate and Homage, it is obvious that Axiom and Andy are completing the circle- going back to the point that Hip-Hop is memory and prophecy. Their lyrics are a record to people who still believe in the truth and not the fads.

One of the album’s strengths is its pacing. Each track transitions smoothly, and every beat change feels intentional. The lyrics stay focused, and the flows are complex without being excessive. However, there are times when clearer vocal mixing could make certain hooks shine more, especially on Mud and Grit. Improving those dynamics would enhance the already strong storytelling.

While Merfolk Space Program feels refined and purposeful, future projects could benefit from subtle enhancements. At times, the production leans heavily on vintage grit—aesthetic perfection for boom-bap lovers, but adding more low-end polish could help tracks like Catacombs or Full-Tilt hit even harder on modern systems. Additionally, a touch more contrast between hooks and verses would create stronger emotional lift across the record. Still, these are minor notes within an otherwise masterful display of skill and cohesion.
