Artist Spotlight: Blue and Green from NYC

4

What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Blue and Green. I’m from NYC!

What’s the story behind your stage name?
It’s a play on the way “Toro y Moi” did his name, but my name is fully English. I wanted to create something simple that people could easily remember.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
Alternative music, rap, and a lot of pop from the ’80s and ’90s shaped me. Kanye is a big inspiration to me because this music stuff is impactful, and you should go hard at it like Kobe Bryant in music—by any means necessary.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I made Lost Pt. 2 by writing while the beat was made. I half freestyle, half write, but usually the hooks come off the top of my head. I co-produced most of my songs too.

What message do you want to convey through your music?
Transparency and relatability. I want to create music that people can connect with and what I want to hear, as many songs these days feel repetitive.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Finding the right sound to mesh with other songs can be difficult. Song tracking is important, and not every song fits together.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Toro y Moi. He’s one of my favorite artists, and he inspired me to explore different sounds and use my voice in various ways. Each album he creates is unique, and a collaboration would blend genres in a fresh way.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I hope to touch more people, perform more shows, and release my best project yet, reaching audiences beyond NYC, like Japan, where some listeners are already connecting with my music.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Being more present, doing more features, and strategically releasing content to build a brand.

We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
I would love to! Sign me up!

Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
Posting more content through blogs would be a great opportunity.

Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
In a Blue World album is streaming everywhere.
