What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My stage name is Dan Cos, and I’m from Chiapas, Mexico.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
It is kind of simple really. My real name is Daniella Costanzo, so I just shortened it.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
A rollercoaster of emotions, an emotional support that keeps me sane, and an amazing way of expressing my inner self.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
Normally, I write more upbeat songs with a romantic message, even if it’s about unrequited love they end up leaning more toward the happier side. But this time I wanted to talk about how I was feeling in that period (which was a post-COVID period). I was feeling a bit stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed at the same time, and talking with some friends, I came to the realization that it was not just me—more than one person was feeling like that. So, I wrote this song that could be like an anthem because there’s this group of people who will relate on a deeper level.
In the end, when the song was about to be released, I sent the final master to my parents, and normally they react very supportively and happily. But this time, they video-called me and asked, “Are you ok?” I just laughed so hard. You should’ve seen their faces—they were worried! I told them, “Yeah, don’t worry, guys. I wasn’t in my prime at that moment, but now I’m ok,” because from the moment I wrote the song to the release was a gap of over a year. I had time to figure it out.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I don’t have a specific message. I just write songs according to what I’m going through at the moment. I would like to connect deeper with myself and with the community so I can develop a more skilled style of writing and composing, but at the moment I think I am on the right path.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
One of the biggest challenges was that I moved abroad, so I was away from my team. In the end, I came up with a strategy with my producer, and we kind of figured it out. I think the trust we have in each other as a team, and the fact that we’ve known each other for many years, helps create stability with the creative team.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
There are so many, I wouldn’t finish naming them all. To name a few:
- In the mainstream area, I would say Billie Eilish and Finneas. The way they create pure art is amazing, and I would love to be in a room watching the whole creative process behind it.
- In Spain, I would say Rosalía. She is an amazing artist who has created unique concepts from the beginning of her career that inspired me to be bolder.
- From Latin America, I really like Nicki Nicole, Mon Laferte, Yami Safdie, Milo J. Even a collab with BZRP sounds amazing.
- From my beautiful Mexico, I have to say Natalia Lafourcade (she is an icon, a legend) and more recently, a group called Latin Mafia. I think all of these artists have amazing proposals, and collaborating with any of them would teach me a ton.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
By next year, I am planning on releasing an EP (maybe a short LP), and I want to start performing that music in small venues, maybe even opening for another artist—who knows?
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Releasing a whole album would be a stepping stone in my career. But I also want to connect with more people, build more significant relationships, and make my music have a more impactful presence with the people I’m trying to connect with. I want to gain more audience and develop my style as an artist. My goal is to have an established concept and brand, and I am thinking of experimenting with other languages and sounds.
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
I am really open to any promotional opportunities that align with my values as an artist and as a person.
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
I just debuted my new single called Tiempo, and you can listen to it through your favorite streaming platform. You can also follow me on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook to see my most recent activity.
What is the best way to contact you if fans want to give feedback or if other artists/producers want to collaborate?
I am pretty active on social media, that could be one way, or also through my professional email.
