What’s your stage name and where are you from?
I don’t really have a stage name. In the past have used Supaman (1999-2007), and then just my name or intitials DC/ D.C./Deecee (2008-present)
What’s the story behind your stage name?
I found someone else was using “Supaman” and I felt their music fit better with what Superman represented so I abadoned it.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
A arduous, lifelong commitment to learning. Trial and error. Practice.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
The last one? I was actually just having my morning coffee and watched a video of Adam Calhoun dissing upchurch on “Church’s Coffin”. I started to write a comment about “why can’t we all just get along and sing songs” and it turned into a freestyle. Sorry Adam..
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Dream Big! Don’t Quit!
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
I think music is general has been a challenge. When I started in 99′ I had to learn to build my own computer because we couldn’t afford one. I taught myself how to record on that with windows sound recorder and a old pc mic. Eventually I progressed to Cool Edit Pro, bought my first behringer mixing board and a b1 condenser and worked with that until about 2008 when I purchased a Boss Br1200 cd digital recorder. In 2011 I joined the Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd airborne division to pay for audio engineering school. I got out of the army in 2016 and went all in with the music performing my first shows and being voted one of the top 5 artists in my area but an endless string of bad decisions left me faced with almost 25 years worth of prison time and I found myself in a hole trying to dig my way out. In 2020 I left the drugs and binge drinking behind and started audio engineering school 2021 graduated in 2022 and have been working these last few years to just write as much as possible and continue working on my engineering skillset.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Eminem and Dre.. I feel like i need to be pushed creatively. I’ve studied Em’s lyrics my entire life and he’s definitely the reason I got into it. I remember telling myself this was what I wanted to do as a kid and I told myself I would work at it everyday until I was as good as he was. I guess lucky for me he never quit.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Hopefully I continue to grow as an engineer and my mixes are better and more professional sounding.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
I’d like to develop myself more as a performer.
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
