What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My stage name is Lion Luciano, and I’m from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
I lived in the Bahamas for a few years, and down there, Rastas used to call me Lion. I ran with it. Then Snoop came out as Snoop Lion, which made it hard to find my music, so I became L. Luciano. Now, I’ve returned to Lion Luciano.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
It’s been about experience, growth, and relevancy. I started my musical journey in 1998, which has been filled with ups and downs, but always growth. Music is my way of expressing thoughts and ideas on topics ranging from politics to partying to life experiences and relationships.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I recently had the opportunity to work with the legend Styles P in the studio, and that was definitely an experience—working with one of the greats.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Honestly, I speak on a wide variety of views, from politics to partying to life experiences and relationships. Music allows me to express my thoughts and ideas.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Life always throws us challenges, but it’s adversity that defines our character. I would say persistence is the key to overcoming any obstacle that faces you in life.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Snoop Dogg. He’s an image of aspiration and has represented the West Coast for over 20 years while remaining relevant. It would be a cool experience to learn from him, share his wisdom, and collaborate on music.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
This year, I am focusing on releasing all the music I’ve been sitting on, continuing to record new tracks, and performing at more shows and festivals across Canada and internationally.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Growing my social platforms, touring, and performing shows in Canada and abroad.
