Artist Introduction

What’s your name and where are you from?

Jeffrey Tune, Seattle WA

What’s the story behind your stage name?

“Type” was shorthand for Arkatype, which was the name I used to sign up for battles back in 1999.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

I started for fun. Continued for fun. Came back for fun.

Fan Engagement

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.

I got the pleasure of working with some artists I look up to a lot on this project, in particular, Louis Logic and Sage Francis. Lou I had know from touring and other collabs. But he has been retired and literally came back to the game for this feature! Which was an honor. Sage I met through this collab and he has been an incredible mentor, giving me advice on songs he wasn’t even involved with. Both are great examples of how “never meet your heroes” isn’t true. They rock.

What message do you want to convey through your music?

Life is fun. Don’t take it too seriously.

Behind the Music

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

I’ve been tracking in Auckland, New Zealand, where I currently live, and sending the vocals back home to Undercaste Studios in Seattle to get mixed. It’s been an interesting process because I generally don’t listen back to what I did until the mix arrives days later. And when I make corrections (if I messed up a word or didn’t hit a note) I need the old vocals muted with a spot open to record and send over new takes all the way across the globe.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

Slug from Atmosphere because his style influenced mine the most.

Future Aspirations

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?

Probably back to the States. I played a show out here in Auckland and like five people came.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?

I’m always focused on the next funny music video. Those are a blast to make and usually receive high praise.
