L!QUE : My seventh full length album, I want to thank everyone involved. It took me 2 years to make this album. I set out to do something ambitious. Very recently, I came to the realization that my approach to making music was flawed. I needed to be more of myself, not to say I was pretending to be anyone else, but really I hadn’t scratched the surface of what was really important to me. I needed to step away from the gimmicks, strip away the theatrics and tell a more focused and character driven story. Stories about my life that people can relate to, good or bad, that they’d be able to feel when listening to the music. That’s what this album is. Stories about my successes, my failures, my wants and needs, the women I’ve loved, the men I’ve fought, the bridges I’ve burned and the relationships I’ve saved. This body of work was put together with the intention of being listened to from track 1-14, all the songs sequencing into each other. That’s the way I’d recommend listening to the album your first couple times through. Put yourselves in my size 13 Yeezy 500s, close your eyes, take a deep breath and just enjoy the music. There’s a story here for everyone.
