Mercedes Brown was gathering a little bouquet on a walk with her dad when he offered a piece of advice she never forgot: “always stop to smell the wildflowers.” Years later, those six words bloomed into “No Tomorrow,” the Red Deer, Alberta alt rocker’s new single from her debut album ‘Light the Fire’ (Small Frog Records). It arrives at a thrilling moment, with her debut single “Playing With Fire” sitting at #1 on the Indigenous Music Countdown.
That chart run caps a remarkable first year for the Wet’suwet’en Tsimshian singer and songwriter. Second single, “So What?” has also landed on Apple Music’s Indigenous Now playlist and earned support from Tinnitist, Cashbox Canada, Radio and Music and Record World International. It even caught the attention of the production crew of CBS’s Tracker after they saw her perform at an open mic in Ucluelet, BC.

“No Tomorrow” shows a gentler, more reflective side of the songwriter behind that churning debut. It’s a song about cherishing the people and moments in front of you, and it started with a memory.
