JP Reynolds, born Rodney Jeremiah Reynolds, defied the odds from birth, overcoming a prognosis of being born brain-dead due to oxygen deprivation. Named after the prophet Jeremiah, JP embraced storytelling and faith, growing up in the Baptist church in Cleveland, Ohio. His family later moved to Mt. Vernon, NY, where JP discovered his passion for music, playing saxophone and singing in the church choir.
Influenced by Lauryn Hill’s “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” JP’s musical journey evolved through jazz, funk, gospel, and hip-hop. Attending Yale University, he formalized his music career in 2009, blending hip-hop lyricism with live instrumentation. In 2017, he formed The Peace and Power Band, a unique ensemble combining vintage and futuristic sounds.
JP’s artistry extends beyond music; he’s an entrepreneur, coach, activist, and minister. He founded Peace and Power Media in 2012, supporting creatives in building sustainable platforms. As a Dream Director at The Future Project since 2015, JP empowers young people to pursue their passions, emphasizing social justice and faith.
With a Bachelor of Arts in African-American Studies and a Master of Divinity from Yale University, JP sees the Peace and Power community as a platform to connect spiritually with God and speak truth to power.
