Artist Introduction
What’s your name and where are you from?
$$MOVV Lauderhill, FL specifically shallow side but I currently live in Richmond VA
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Tl/DR My close friend who I had a group with called the group SMOVVXSOUL so I took the part which he attributed to me and my style “SMOVV” as my stage name which I had to change to $$MOVV because another artist had my name I got my name from my close friend a little bit after we first met. He found out I rapped and wanted to be in a rap group with me at the time I had just turned 14 and didn’t really take rap seriously but then after him hyping me up so much it gave me the courage to believe in myself the way he did. when thinking if a name for the. group he finally decided on one “SMOVVxSOUL’ Or “SXS” for short after he moved away to New York the group didn’t make music anymore so we were both just doing our own thing but its forever SXS for me so I kept the name someone else ended up using it letter for letter which is crazy because until then I never seen smooth spelled that way so I had to change the S to $ and the name has a double meaning the one im writing about now and the one I came up with for the change which is Money “$$”.Manipulates.Our.Vital.Values its a reminder that no matter where my career goes ill never change
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I started rapping between 3-5 years old at 14 I decided I wanted it to be my career. Had my first son at 19 and slowed down considerably, now im giving my dream the effort it deserves and giving it everything I got at 25.
Fan Engagement
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
Getting more into poetry. I feel like rapping is a form of poetry itself but when trying to figure out the intro for the song I stumbled upon this video of Maya Angelou reciting a poem she made called mask and after listening to it in its entirety I was moved and shocked to find something that perfectly fit with the meaning of the song after that I went into a rabbit hole of poetry on YouTube and I enjoy reading and hearing it alot now
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Honestly I just wanna speak to and for my people in the best way I can using my own personal issues and struggles as the foundation and building upon that with the stories and day to day of the people that look like me. live like me. And feel like me
Behind the Music
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
