What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Bag Boy Blu, New York
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Bag Boy Blu originated from a nickname my brother gave me, ‘Bags,’ due to my strong desire to make money. I’ve always had a deep sense of ambition and determination to succeed. From a young age, I adopted a grinding mindset, always focused on working hard and pursuing my goals. Over time, I started calling myself Bag Boy Blu as a reflection of that drive and mindset
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
My musical journey has been a fun and unpredictable ride, full of unexpected twists and creative growth. Every step has been unique, allowing me to explore new sounds, styles, and experiences that shape my artistry. What drives me is embracing the unknown and pushing boundaries to create something truly different from the norm.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
One of the most impactful experiences I’ve had came from a past relationship, where my ex-girlfriend betrayed my trust by stealing over $150k and being disloyal throughout our time together. This painful experience became a major source of inspiration for my track ‘Heartbreak,’ as it forced me to confront deep emotions and channel that pain into my music
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Through my music, I want to convey the message of resilience and self-awareness. Life throws a lot of challenges my way, from betrayal to setbacks, but I use those experiences as fuel to push forward and stay true to myself. Whether it’s about ambition, heartbreak, or the grind, I aim to inspire others to embrace their journey, stay focused, and never let obstacles define who they are.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
One of the biggest challenges I faced during production was channeling the intense emotions from a personal betrayal into my music in a way that felt authentic but still powerful. After experiencing a painful situation where I was robbed and betrayed by someone I trusted, I struggled to turn that raw pain into something creative without letting it overwhelm me. To overcome this, I focused on using music as a form of therapy, breaking down my feelings into lyrics and melodies that allowed me to process and release the negativity. It wasn’t easy, but the result became a track that was not only cathartic for me but also relatable for others who might have gone through similar experiences.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
If I could collaborate with any artist, it would definitely be J. Cole. His storytelling ability, authenticity, and introspective lyrics are something I deeply admire. He has a way of blending personal experiences with universal themes, and I feel like our energies would complement each other perfectly. Plus, his production style and versatility align with the direction I want my music to go, so it would be a natural fit to create something powerful together.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
In the next year, I see my music taking me to new heights, both personally and professionally. I plan to continue growing as an artist, refining my sound, and connecting with a wider audience. Whether it’s through bigger collaborations, more exposure, or deeper connections with fans, I want my music to evolve and reach people who resonate with the stories and emotions I’m sharing. Ultimately, I see myself making a stronger impact in the industry, with my music becoming more than just tracks it’ll be an experience and a movement.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
The next big step for me as an artist is to expand my reach and solidify my presence in the industry. That means dropping a project that showcases the full depth of my sound, experimenting with new styles, and really pushing the boundaries of my creativity. I also want to focus on live performances and building a stronger connection with my fans, whether it’s through shows or more personal interactions on social media. The goal is to keep growing and building momentum, making a name for myself not just as an artist, but as someone whose music leaves a lasting impact.
