What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Bailey Straughn from Baltimore, MD
What’s the story behind your stage name?
It’s just my government no funny business.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I learned how to freestyle to entertain my family. I started writing songs about my life. Now I’m just trying to write the craziest bars over the hardest beats my friends can make.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
Well the night we made Rooftop Party was crazy because we all had a hectic day since we got full time jobs and what not. It was a cold Sunday night last November and I really had everything mapped out I just had to get us all in one room. Can’t even believe we channeled the energy of that song under those conditions. I laid the verses down ez pz then jay came with the digitakt on some silly shit but soon as I heard that sound I was like “nah run that at the end” music is beautiful man.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I used to be all sad and introspective in my music. I still rap my ass off but I don’t feel like being all depressing nowadays I just wanna have fun to be honest. The world is depressing enough. I guess “be honest” would be the short answer.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
With this upcoming tape “FREE:BASS” in particular it was kinda hard to make party music after you get off a 9to5 and cut the grass then do the dishes, but I realized a lot of people that go to parties live that life during the day and that’s what they party for, a sweet little treat if you will…
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Valee he’s my favorite rapper. MIKE would be cool too because his production sounds familiar in that sub genre but if you really listen nobody is making beat like him in my opinion. Honorable Mention Flo Milli.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
All across the country. I really want to go to Germany too because I got friends out there plus they are really into electronic music and raves, that area is so interesting music wise.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Shiiiiiid I would like a BUDGET and a TOUR
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
I drop everything I do on my YouTube Bailey Straughn @WTHLPRODUCTIONS Also stream me my whole back catalogue is crazy.
