What’s your stage name and where are you from?

BTHEWISER is my stage name, and I was born in Houston, Texas. Around the time Hurricane Katrina hit, my family relocated us to a small city north of Austin, called Hutto.

What’s the story behind your stage name?

BTHEWISER was came to be after long and careful consideration. My name is the first thing a potential fan will read when they’re discovering my music for the first time. I knew I had to sit and think about it. It was 2017, and I was sitting at my dining table in my apartment in college. I was thinking of unique sounding phrases or things/ideas that I resonated with growing up. Nothing was sticking. And then it hit me. I’m the youngest in my family. I have two older sistes, Jennifer and Linda. Beautiful vocalists and musicians. But the one thing that remained a constant as I began grow up was the guidance and advice passed down from them and my parents. They spoke through their own trials and tribulations trying to make sure I didn’t make any mistakes I could avoid. And in that moment I knew. I had to be wiser. Brian became BTHEWISER.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

Perpetual perfectionism pigeon-holding progress. The balance is everything. Consistency doesn’t need an end-goal to propel you.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.

I invitied my homie B-ILL over to give him a tour of my new studio. We started chopping it up, talking about the future, and started watching some music videos. For as long as we’ve known each other, we’ve only worked on a couple songs, so I wanted to get one with him for my debut album, “Foster’s Home For Imaginary Rappers.” I showed him the beat and he started writing. After a little while, I started playing some of his old songs, and lead us to hitting up one of our homies, Spinx, that was alwats so cold on the mic, but has been M.I.A, on hiatus. B-ILL facetimes him, and we get him to the studio and proceed to create an golden record. Spinx hadn’t recorded in probably years, but was still writing. It all was very spontaneous, and I dare to say he may have even bodied me on my own record haha.

What message do you want to convey through your music?

The main theme I want my music to convey to the world is that no matter now unrelatable you feel, there will always be someone going through the same emotions. I want people to know that there is strength in standing firm on your beliefs when others try to sway you. I want people to know you can be different and proud of it at the same time.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

As an independent artist, I think most people know that we fund everything ourselves. After we pay our bills everything goes to furthering our career in music through equipment, software, advertising, photo shoots, etc. The list goes on. I’ve been recording, producing, and engineering myself for half a decade now. I bought everything at the best price I could. My records slowly got better and better, but I felt like I was missing the magic touch on it. My recording room wasn’t sound treated. Things started to flourish when I met Johnny Park and Niko Fitz, which lead to meeting some of the most life changing people I’ve ever met. I was taken in with open arms, and as a result, we’ve formed an unstoppable force taking on the music scene by storm. My records have blossomed with Niko at head engineer, both learning from each other, and with the drive and determination from Johnny, Ryn, Otto, and countless others, I’ve learned how to work in tandem in a collective of multi-talented people, navigating our weaknesses to become stronger, together.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

Donald Glover is one of my biggest inspirations in music, film, and creative direction. He is a true renaissance man. Gambino motivates me to see through all my artistic visions in a world that will try to put you in a box. I’ve always been a multifaceted individual often surrounded by people who don’t share the same vision, so it fuels a fire in me to express myself in as many ways as possible.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?

Within the next 365 days, I will have performed at SXSW (South By South West), appear on On The Radar, reach 100,000 streams, land a sync placement, and collaborate with talented musicians and artists that I look up to.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?

The next big step for me as an artist would be to be involved in video broadcasts in any shape or format that reaches milions of people. The next level involves having my face and personality stamped on the world, and showing the masses my truest character.
