What’s your stage name and where are you from?
CHRYS THOMPSON from Palm Springs, California
What’s the story behind your stage name?
I used to go by C4, then it quickly changed to CFO when I started my MBA program. When I started preparing for releasing music in 2019, I noticed numerous artist profiles that already used CFO and I wanted to make it easier to find my music so I went with CHRYS with a Y!
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I had learned to evolve and trust the process. Growing from a freestyle rapper, to a producer, to a singer/songwriter and finally into my own style as an artist.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
This latest track was derived from a visit that my brother took up to LA to see my studios for the first time. I found this Wutang beat and that’s my brother’s favorite rap group so I thought it would be perfect. We worked on it all night and it ended up being a song that I wrote new verses for and released!
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Always want to bring authenticity, inspiration, storytelling and positivity to each song.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Matching the energy of the track and ensuring it’s a cohesive as possible.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Collaborating with Eminem has been a dream of mine since I started making music. He is the illest to ever grab a mic. A newer inspiration is Anderson Paak, I am impressed with his versatility as a musician.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Singles after singles. Consistently putting out new music all year. Working on a show set of music that will be perfect for a performance.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Creating a catalog. More music.
