What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Dr. Stan hailing from Charlotte North Carolina
What’s the story behind your stage name?
It’s a mix of the original name for Hercule from dragon ball Z “Mr. Satan” and a nod to the fact I wanted to have a doctorate in Astrophysics and Chemistry, with the extra a taken out of Satan. Some could also argue it’s a tribute to Eminem in a way. Honestly, it just fit!
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
Long haul type living. Started in 2016, made my way with a local producer for awhile. Then built my own studio and started producing full time, eventually coming back to rap.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
The creation of my last track “Never” was my first time mixing my favorite elements of songs altogether. Vox chops and melodic space, while creating it I knew I had to make something killer out of it. I couldn’t sit on my laurels with this one.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Coming from nothing is the best place to start, as you can only look up. And if you look hard enough you can become a star with all the thousand in the sky. Keep ya head up, all the time.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Actually getting the mix to sit correctly with all elements in this song was a pain, went through 4 different completely different mixes and 3 “Masters” which doesn’t seem like much, but with my monthly release schedule this song almost pushed itself too far back, tireless nights listening to every portion getting it where I wanted.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Definitely off rip Mac Miller, I would pick his brain for hours, his creativity and humble demeanor just astounded me. His untimely passing drove me to really allow myself to feel through music. To create something beautiful. He will be more than missed in my heart forever.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Steady releases, I know it’s not an overnight game. I’m here for the long haul and I want to build a solid foundation, whether it’s tomorrow or 10 years I’m gonna be here and I want you to be here with me.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Getting some stage time. I want to tour, I want to be the next big thing or as close to it as I can get. I want my family to eat off my work. I’m always looking for opportunities to get myself in, and work with other creatives. I love seeing the soul people put in their music and I want to be apart of it all.
