Artist Introduction
What’s your name and where are you from?
Fortunato from Toronto
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Fortunato means the fortunate one in Italian. I’m Italian and I chose the name based on a novel I read named Wild Cards.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
It started off with just writing rhymes to pass the time in class. Then I met some friends and we started cyphers and recording songs. Now I have been a solo artist for 12 years and I’ve recorded over 20 albums and toured North America and Europe.
Fan Engagement
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
Well I wrote this during the height of the pandemic in the dead of winter. We weren’t allowed inside so I had to write it on the street and my fingers were so cold from typing on my phone that I had to take breaks in between bars to warm my hands.
Truth, hope, love, and smoke weed everyday.
Behind the Music
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
The biggest challenge was the distance between The Dirty Sample and myself. Him being in BC made it difficult to collaborate but we pulled it off. Where there’s a will there’s a way.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I would love to work with Nems cause he reminds me of Sean P.
Future Aspirations
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Touring in Asia.
